Irish Famine Refugees who Settled in Dansville, NY, 1847-1852

The Dansville Library has two volumes of information about the Irish immigrants who came to Dansville during the famine.

Contributor notes: Most came out of Ireland 1846-1850s. Many through Canada 1847 and theninto the states. The volumes [are] mostly handwritten notes . . . information on some names is rather sparse, with some families there is extensive information and others just a line or two. Information includes church records, obits, census, burial locationand tombstone readings, pages from various books, locations in Ireland. In some cases placenames in Ireland are listed; many were from Mayoand Sligo.

Coordinator's note: These two counties (Mayo and Sligo) in northwestern Ireland are said to have lost 60,000 lives per year; a higher rate than the rest of the country.
