Conklin, John -- Sparta; 10 Mar 1843. Livingston County

This last will & testament of John Conklin of the town of Sparta in the County of Livingston. I John Conklin aged seventy years & upwards being desirous to discharge the duty which every man owes to his family by making such provision for the disposition of my property as shall be just & equitable do make publish & declare this my last will & testament as follows.

First. I will that all my just debts be paid.

Second. I give & bequeath to my son Philip H Conklin the lot of land which was deeded to me by William Carns & Phebe his wife on the eighteenth day of September eighteen hundred and forty one, also a small strip of land which is now enclosed immediately north of the above mentioned piece on which the said Philip H Conklin has erected a house. Also a certain promisory note which I hold against him, provided that if he pays two certain notes for which I am security for him one to Joel Hadley & the other to George Mitchell but in case said notes have to be paid out of my estate I only bequeath to him the balance of his note the whole amount of which is forty four dollars & fourteen cents.

Third. I give & bequeath to my daughter Lany the lot on which my dwelling house stands being about five acres of land with the exception of the small piece given to my son Philip H. Also two cows, one chest and all my beds & bedding.

Fourth. I direct that the remainder of my property both real & personal be equally divided between my seven other children Jacob, Margaret, William, Eliza, Samuel, George & John. That part of my property which I give to my daughter Eliza I wish shall be for her & her heirs.

In witness therof I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of March 1843.

The above instrument consisting of one sheet was subscribed by John Conklin the testor in our presence & was declared by him to be his last will & testament, and we at his request have signed herto as witnesses.
