Wills Record Book 3, page 487. Guthrie, James, Sr. -- York; d. 1838. Will proved 1853. Livingston Co, NY. York April 17 1837 I James Guthrie senior by the grace of God being of sound mind do make this my last will and testament. I wish all my lawful debts to be paid and the property I then may be posessed of at my death to be divided between my four daughters in the following manner. Supposing the land I now posess to be value for Seven Hundred dollars. I wish to leave One Hundred and fifty dollars to my Daughter Mary One Hundred and fifty dollars to my daughter Margaret - these sums to become due One year after my death my two daughters Jane and Eliza Ann to hold the land as Joint Proprietors by paying the above sums to Mary and Margaret - - if the property I leave at my death is value for so much - - if it is not value for so much - I wish it to be divided by the above scale - that is three to four - as mentioned above - and should the property be sold I wish the same plan to be followed in the division - my books to be equaly divided between my four daughters - my wearing apparel I leave to my son Robert John Guthrie - my Executors to settle all disputes - and also to put a value on the property I may lave -- my bed and bedding I leave to my daughter Eliza Ann - I appoint the following persons my Executors to this my last will.
