Bailey

James Longshire Baley (Bailey) arrived in Springwater, Livingston county between 1827 and 1829. James was born in Ontario county, NY 31 May 1800 to Jonathan and Pamelia Baley and died in Springwater, Livingston County, NY in 1873. James married Jerusha Cooley in Milo, Yates County, NY in 1819 and they had 5 children while still in Milo. Jerusha was born in Pennsylvania in 1799 and died in Springwater in 1869. Their children were Amos, Job (Amanda Deniston), Abner (Philana Redmont), David (Laura Ervin), Truman (Mary Jane Redmond) and (adopted) Amanda Pike (Ruben Smail). After Jerussha died in 1869, James married Mary E. Ferguson in 1870 and they had a child, Pamelia Bailey, in 1871. Pamelia died young.

His parents, Jonathan and Jerusha Baley, arrived in Milo, Yates County, NY from Romulus, Seneca County about 1813. He built a house which still exists today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Jonathan was born in 1774, probably Elizabethtown, Essex, NJ and died 25 May 1846, Milo, Yates, NY. Pamelia was born in 1767, Pennsylvania and died 5 Sept 1850, Milo, Yates, NY. They had four children: Sarah (George Wilhelm) of Livingston County, James (Jerusha Cooley) of Livingston County, Jonathan (Ann Van Dyne) of Yates County, Samuel (Melissa Runyon) of Livingston County.

After his father died, Job and Amanda Bailey relocated to Alma, Gratiot County, MI in 1876. Job was a talented carpenter and loved children and horses. He is still remembered by his family for his jolly, optimistic personality, which his children inherited. Job and Amanda had 14 children, 8 surviving to adulthood. They were: Mary M. (Lester Jackman), Byron (Minerva Sanborn, Malinda Borrose), James G. (Etta Swift), Gusham (died young), Ira Martin (died young), Beman Dewitt (Emma Berlin), Harvey Ford (died young), Charles Belmont, George Durward (died young), Edward Eugene, Bert Job (Hannah Brown), Grace Agatha(Harry Strouse), and Lydia Mabel (William Steward). Job Bailey died after a fall in 1898 at the age of 77. His wife, Amanda Deniston Bailey, died of heart disease at age 69. They are both buried in Riverside Cemetery, Alma, Gratiot County, MI.
