John Conklin, his
paternal grandfather, was born in New Jersey, December 28, 1772 & died
at Scottsburg, Livingston Co NY, Oct 4, 1850; Laney (Wilhelm) Conklin,
his paternal grandmother, was born in New Jersey, Oct 5, 1776 & died
June 14, 1838. Franklin Cary, his maternal grandfather, was born
in NY & died Aug 1, 1816. Priscilla (Tubbs),his maternal
grandmother, was born in Livingston Co & died in 1870.
His father, Philip H Conklin, was born near Sparta NY,
Aug 31, 1814 & died in Scottsburg in that state, Aug 31, 1882;
Martha Cary, the mother was born in the same county July 7,
1816 & died at Scottsburg in 1888.
Mr Conklin came to Elmwood
in May, 1861. He enlisted in Company F, 77th Illinois
Volunteer Infantry, serving 2 years. He bore a part
in the siege of Vicksburg & the Red River Campaign.
After the war he located on a farm & has followed
the occupation of a farmer until 1895.
was married to Emeline Conklin in Elmwood, March
9, 1875. She was born in Livingston Co. NY on
Mar 3, 1834, the daughter of Jacob & Susan (Coller)
Conklin, natives of New Jersey; her father was born
Nov 30, 1801, her mother March 12, 1806.
Mrs Conklin is a member of the Methodist Church.
Mr Conklin is a Republican
