Ethan BRONSON---One of the first pioneers came to South Lima in 1802. He, Ethan Bronson, bought a large tract of land from the Holland Land Purchase, and on the cloicest location in town he built a log cabin. This he turned into a hotel until 1826. In 1817 Mr. Bronson built an addition to his cabin on the southwest corner of Bronson Hill. At the death of Ethan Bronson, his son, Clancy, came into possession of the homestead and with his others brothers owned all of Bronson Hill corners, Samuel Bronson owning the farm on the northwest and Horace the northeast corner and land west of the homestead. The cabin was once the home of Jeremish Whaley, who was also one of the very early settlers. The original Bronson cabin and addition burned during the 1950's. A new home was built on the site and is still a private home. Most of the members of the Bronson family are buried in the Bronson Hill Cemetery, located in the town of Avon. Although the Bronsons were the first known settlers in the area, most of the development of homes took place east of the original Bronson homesite. (Livonia History, 1789-1989)
